Greetings
from CHM Director David Byrne!
In reviewing some documents to prepare for our CHM board retreat, I came across a planning sheet from over 10 years ago that included adding an Instituto ALMA director in order to care for the expansion of the leadership training program. Even then, I realized that there was so much more we could do with the right help. Although delayed, I trust that the timing was of the Lord, and give thanks for Jerry Clarkson and his family in the innovative work they are doing to launch new classes and remodel our online classes while starting a new biblical studies track. Besides the program and technical improvements, we also continue renovations on our League City Ministry Center and our church-planting project. Sometimes it takes a big hammer to knock things into place and Jerry is doing a fine job of leadership and getting the job done. It’s about time! Come
to Jesus!
In coordination with our
Holiness class (see article on right), David Harriman shared in an
evangelistic crusade with area Spanish-speaking churches that was
hosted at the Friendswood Methodist Church. “América
Será para Cristo” (America Will Be For Christ) was the theme
that emphasized God’s call to the people of the Americas to belong to
him as his children (salvation) and to bear his image (holiness) and
truly belong to Him in every sense of the word.
We thank God for the 11 who received Christ for the first time and trust that the materials developed out of the class will challenge thousands of believers to yield their lives fully to God in a way that will truly claim the Americas for Christ. The AMANA Hispanic Ministerial Alliance had its annual planning meeting recently in Kingston N.Y., where the North American Hispanic Friends Conference will be held in October. Pastors Tony and Sonia Urrutia and their church were gracious hosts, and we look forward to another dynamic time of growing in the Lord together in the fall. For 2010 we are considering having the conference in an English-speaking church that wants to experience God’s work among Hispanics in North America with a vision for starting its own Hispanic Ministry. Any takers? |
At the end of March, CHM and the Instituto ALMA invited David Harriman to present a class on holiness. The class was called Holiness, the Supreme Goal for Ministry. Our biggest challenge was just getting started—as North Dakota storms caused 4 flight cancellations for our speaker over the first three days we were to host the class. With some quick rescheduling to move class sessions to the weekend, we were able to complete the class and film the presentations for distribution across the Americas through the Internet. Holiness is sometimes not a popular theme in the church. Sometimes it is tied to a deadening legalism rather than a joyous and powerful love. Our prayer is that this class can help challenge believers to find a deeper walk. |
