Winter 2015-2016 |
Greetings
from CHM Director David Byrne!
In this season it is a blessing to step back and admire the work of God in the world. We would wish that God’s work would be completed in a day and the struggle we have in the confusion of this world would be over. The eschaton (end time) is on its way but all things have not yet been fulfilled. We long for the revealing of the Son of God and the revealing of His glory. On a video call the other day I was able to reconnect with a good friend and his family in Mexico that I hadn’t seen for over 20 years. What a revelation of God’s grace to see that in spite of many challenges they had been through, their faith has grown and the work that was begun in them continues toward eternity. In Hispanic ministry, as in all of life, we rejoice that God’s work has been completed for us in Jesus the Messiah. We rejoice in God’s blessings and the lives that are held in God’s hands, but we know that there is still much to do and much that needs to be transformed by His grace. CHM is a part of that beautiful panoramic scene of God’s redemption. I thank you for walking in this mission with us and thank God for His power and persistence in bringing joy to the world. “Fear not for behold I bring you news of great joy that will be for all people.” Luke 2:10 Sincerely, David C. Multiplying Churches
The National Friends Church Multiplication Conference (August 3-5, 2016) is, according to Dr. Jim Le Shana head of the planning team, “A gathering of evangelically-minded Friends leaders, students, and others who have a heart for church planting and who want to be faithful to do our part to fulfill the Great Commission through the Friends Church.” This year the conference will highlight Dr. Bob Logan, a long-time authority in church planting and will also have a special emphasis on Hispanic and cross-cultural church multiplication. Plan now to attend in Haviland, Kansas. See the full invitation with details HERE or go to the conference website at: FriendsMultiply.com. CHM is proud to be a partner. Immigration
All Hispanic ministries in the U.S. are deeply affected by the immigration debate and the broken immigration system. We believe in the rule of law but we have a responsibility to establish laws that are fair and just. Beyond that, Christians are called to love all and extend God’s grace in Jesus’ name. To learn more about this issue as it confronts Christians you might want to watch the 40 minute film “The Stranger” available by following the link at TheStrangerFilm.org. Also the EvangelicalImmigrationTable.com has good information to help bring the perspective of Christ to the conversation. Giving to CHM
It seems that each year at this time CHM is behind in our budget. We trust that God will provide and we are thankful for each one who is led to contribute in prayer and giving. Donors will receive a tax receipt in January for their gifts throughout the year, but more importantly, gifts will be used to further the cause of Hispanic ministry. |
AMANA 2015
The North American Hispanic Friends Conference presented by the Ministerial Alliance of North American Hispanic Friends was an uplifting time of blessing again this year with good participation from across the continent as well as a good number of special participants from Central America. Following the theme of being committed to the Kingdom, participants were challenged to define themselves for God’s kingdom. With a totally packed house in the host church in Las Vegas we were glad to have a parallel program for the many (over 100) youth who came mostly out of the California churches and who met in a “tent meeting” in the church yard. The Las Vegas Church did an amazing job in receiving all of the out of town guests and fostered the kind of fellowship that is one of the highlights and blessings of the conference each year. We look forward to next year when we celebrate the 20th annual conference in the American cradle of Friends in Philadelphia. Hope you can join us! Devotional Writings
Janine Saxton is working on an interesting project and is soliciting Hispanic writers to contribute toward a devotional collection that springs out of the Spanish-speaking Friends’ experience. The project is part of her Masters in Transformational Leadership studies she is completing at Barclay College and her hope is to publish the devotional collection in an English/Spanish bilingual format. If you would like to read more (in Spanish) about the project and her invitation to writers for the project you can read that online HERE. |
Pray
for the immigration issue and the many thousands in our churches trapped
in a legal sinkhole with no way out. Pray for the immigrants in your
community for both their material and spiritual needs. |
|
Pray
for the Byrne family as we seek to serve the Lord in creative ways.
We are incredibly thankful to God for his blessings but need His touch daily.
