Making Hispanic Ministry the Priority!
CHM Homepage
Spring 2005

Greetings from CHM Director David Byrne!

The primary mission of CHM is to develop and promote ministries to the Hispanic communities of North America.  We have alwaysDecember Aguascalientes Prayer Team worked, to some extent, with the churches on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border that share the context of cross-cultural ministry.  Lately, I have felt personally drawn to go even further into Mexico to help with an EFM project to plant churches in Aguascalientes—one of the most unevangelized cities in Mexico.  It was a privilege to accompany a group along with appointed missionary, Jeremy Smuck, on an exploratory prayer trip in December to prepare the way for that ministry.  It was especially gratifying to me that pastoral leaders from 3 Northern Mexico churches in two different states were members of this trip and are committed to continued prayer and support.
Now I am excited that my daughter, Andrea, is making plans to be a part of the church-planting team in Aguascalientes after graduating from Northwestern University in May.  I am amazed how God’s leading is confirmed as he directs each of us to take our places in the task of reaching the people he loves.

Coahuila Family Conference

One of the workshops that CHM is offering this year is a conference on Family life that approaches marriage and family from the perspective of the three enduring traits of Faith, Hope and Love from I Cor. 13.  The photo above shows part of the group that attended the day-long Nueva Rosita family conference.

 Many Miles—Many Blessings

In a matter of a few weeks between February and March, David Byrne found himself in 14 different states as he visited and ministered in Hispanic churches from Massachusetts to Kansas.  It is incredible how many growing Hispanic churches there are across the country and how committed Hispanic leaders are to raising up more.

Instituto ALMA Leadership Training Making Disciples—Preparing Ministers  Houston Graduate School of Theology
CHM’s partnership with the Houston Graduate School of Theology to offer accredited pastoral training continues.   We are also reemphasizing our non-accredited Instituto ALMA leadership training materials which are being transferred from VHS tapes to DVD and VCD disks.

News & Prayer

F --Pray for the re-editing and distribution for the Instituto ALMA training materials.  This is a time-intensive project that can give multiplying fruit.
F

--Pray for the changing situation in Hugoton, Kansas and for their ongoing Hispanic Ministry there.  Every ministry partnership has its challenges and cross-cultural issues make cooperation more complex.  This church needs our prayers for God’s direction and intervention.

F

--Pray for the mission projects of the Hispanic churches that are looking beyond their own congregations for outreach.  They need God’s wisdom as they seek resources to  participate in the great commission.
