Greetings
from CHM Director David Byrne! >
One of the greatest things in life is to be touched by the power of God. No matter how long we have been in church and how many times we have sensed His power, there is nothing that can compare to the joy of His Spirit touching ours. In the EFC-ER sessions in July, the theme was “Moving from Duty to Delight” and that is what we did. With more than 160 Hispanic Friends at the special sessions over the weekend in Canton, Ohio, we knew it would be a special time, but the ministry of God’s Spirit and the unity among His children was remarkable. I thank God for the ministry of David Harriman among both the Spanish and English speaking Friends along with the Hispanic pastors and Yearly Meeting leadership who made this “appointment with God” possible. Most of all, I thank God Himself for His eternal loving-kindness that brings joy to those who seek and serve Him. Renewing
the
Instituto ALMA We are moving
right along in the Instituto ALMA leadership training institute, thanks
to the welcome participation of Jerry Clarkson as the new
director. He is enthusiastically giving new vision to the program
and working on some of the technical challenges for redeploying the
training materials even as we develop new classes. If you would
like to receive his newsletters, send him a note
at:Jerry@institutoalma.org. To help support his ministry in
giving or in prayer, call or write CHM (CHM@institutoalma.org) and
we’ll be glad to tell you how.
Jerry says he has to look at things one step at a time since the big picture can be overwhelming. There is so much that can be done through the Institute to bless church leaders and Jerry is God’s man for the job. |
Quick Trips to Mexico (Getting Ready for October Conference) This year’s North American Hispanic Friends Conference (October 9-12) will be held for the first time in In early August Jerry Clarkson and I, along with our daughters, made a follow-up visit where we also had a chance to share briefly in their VBS. I shared about “George’s Great Search” (“Jorge y la Gran Búsqueda” which is also available in English on our Internet literature page institutoalma.org/Literatura/). It is an illustrated story of the spiritual pilgrimage of George Fox, who found the one who could “speak to his condition,” - Jesus. Each year among the highlights of our North American conference are the “Historias de Victoria” (Victory Stories) that church leaders share about God’s working among them. The Jesus who spoke to “George’s” condition is the same one who spoke to Paul’s, and the one who leads His church forward today—and we can learn from each other about that experience. One of our guiding principles in the Coalition for Hispanic Ministries is precisely that God’s wisdom and beauty are revealed in the varied members of Christ’s body. The Anglo church needs the Hispanic church, the Hispanic churches need each other and each Christian must learn from what God has done in others. Let us seek the Lord together! |
